Inspired by true events, this is the story of a young mother of an autistic boy whose years of persistence and battle against bureaucracy and callousness led to significant changes in the Polish education system.

The year is 1989. Maryśka, a young woman, becomes pregnant by Darek, an older militia officer. He does not want the child and pressures her to have an abortion. Despite her precarious financial situation and ambitious life plans, Maryśka decides to give birth, and Darek walks out of her life. Soon after, her son is born; she is supported in raising him by her older sister, Marta. It quickly becomes apparent that the boy is vastly different from his peers: he is strangely withdrawn and introverted, and the only word he speaks is “śubuk.”

As the years go by, Maryśka’s son is expelled from preschool, and eventually, a medical diagnosis confirms the truth: the boy has autism.
